SALT LAKE CITY April 27, 1999 FrameRate Corporation, a leading provider of video messaging systems for public and private cable television operators, announced today the availability of Instant CityGraphics, a service that provides city governments high-impact attractive videotext programming on their cable channels with no equipment purchase and minimal staffing requirements. The new service takes advantage of Internet tools to make communication instantaneous and provide quick turnaround of product.
"Instant CityGraphics is a breakthrough for cities that have channels allocated as part of their local cable TV franchise agreement but do not have the staffing or equipment budgets to put the channel on-air," said James Harvey, FrameRates President and CEO. "Government access channels serve an important role in delivering information to the community. Communities that have never had government access channel programming can benefit from this service. These automated 'bulletin-board' channels broadcast information on city council meetings, job openings, volunteer opportunities, community events, safety tips, and a host of related government information. In an emergency, a government access channel can play a key role in delivering information to the community."
The Instant CityGraphics package includes the installation of a Millennium playback system at the city's channel origination point. Millennium is FrameRate's popular video messaging system. The service allows cities to submit messages via the Internet and have them returned as ready-to-air multimedia programming within 24 hours. Messages can also be sent via fax. FrameRate provides full-scheduling services as well, to create a fully automated bulletin-board videotext service.
The Instant CityGraphics service is already successfully on-air with KCRT Television in Richmond, California. KCRT reaches over 70,000 cable subscribers in the cities of Richmond, El Cerrito, San Pablo, Albany, Kensington, and El Sobrante (Western Contra Costa and Northern Alameda counties).
Eric Xavier, General Manager, KCRT Television said, "With this new outsourcing service, we tell FrameRate what messages we want to deliver, including narration, graphics, and text. FrameRates fast turnaround gets us on-air quickly. Its also cost effective when we compare our present expenses for messaging. The service allowed us to upgrade our system and enhance our on-air look. Finally, its designed for web and network interfacing and is also very user friendly."
FrameRate Corporation markets a family of multimedia communication solutions. The Millennium Information Suite software, along with FrameRates Millennium and Chameleon turn-key systems, are used by commercial cable operators, city & county governments for public, educational, and government access channels (PEG), corporate enterprises, and retail advertisers. Founded in 1993, FrameRate is a private company based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
